Al Rabee

Society for Nature and  Animal Protection

Al Rabee is a dog shelter in Aqaba, Jordan, committed to the protection of our commununity's stray dog population.

Welcome to Al Rabee,

I am Rodica Athamnah.

Originally from Romania, I founded the Al Rabee Society for Nature and Animal Protection in Aqaba, driven by my lifelong passion for animals and a deep concern for the stray dogs in Jordan. Raised on a farm where animals were cherished members of the family, I felt a profound sense of detachment from that way of life after moving to Jordan. As my children grew older and left home, I turned my focus to the plight of neglected animals in my community. With early retirement providing me the time to act, I rallied friends to raise awareness and provide veterinary care for strays. Despite initial challenges and a lack of local support, my unwavering dedication led to the establishment of a shelter, where I could offer these vulnerable animals the safe haven and compassionate care they desperately needed.

Our Dog Shelter's Mission

Attending to and rescuing Aqaba's burgeoning population of stray and feral dogs and cats by providing them with a safe and spacious shelter with veterinarian care, sterilizing them and finding loving homes to as many of them as possible, cooperating with the city's educational institutions and schools in teaching students about our city's unique stray animal populations, their life and emotional lives, arranging for them to visit our shelter, to get familiarized with our services and animals, interacting with and learning about their special sensitivities and the beauty of human-animal interaction, its enrichment of the mental lives of both the animals and humans.
